Rhododendron "Sir Edmund Hillary"

Registered 2010 by Heritage Park.

Propagated for Heritage Park Gardens by Rodney Wilson from a plant grown from seed of R. arboreum ssp. arboreum sent by the Queen of Nepal in the 1970's, this rhododendron is a living memorial to famous New Zealand mountaineer and explorer Sir Edmund Hillary (1919-2008).

To commemorate the occasion, this rhododendron was planted by Lady Hillary in a special ceremony on 05 October 2012.

This Rhododendron "Sir Edmund Hillary" shrub and plaque are located at the end of the camellia hedge adjacent to the Chalet.

Proceeds from the sale of rhododendron "Sir Edmund Hillary" are assisting the Nepalese people.
